Natas Records was created in 2006 by Chris Balogh, a music industry veteran who has spent well over 13 years growing and living deeply within the music community on both national and international levels. Having worked closely with legendary musicians and groups including Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Alicia Keys and the Rolling Stones to name a few, plus top executives, managers, financial advisors and agents in the field, Chris is equipped with a 360-degree standpoint and know-how of what it takes to make an artist successful in the long-term. In his own words:

I believe that there are certain things that music does to each and every person. Music can change a person’s mood in a heartbeat - from happy to sad, sad to angry, angry to peaceful, peaceful to excited or any of a million combinations. Over the years of living and breathing the music business, I have developed some sort of a sixth sense so to speak, and believe that everyone has something that makes them feel different and that sets them apart from the crowd - or that just simply makes them feel like they have something to contribute to this life.

I have developed the “goose bump meter” which is a personal judgment of music – whether a particular performance or lyrics are good, very good or absolutely incredible depends on the amount of hair it can raise. It has been a success meter for almost every one of the acts that I have ever been involved with and always seems to prove correct. I remember the early days working with a then unknown girl at the age 18 named Alicia Keys. She had just finished recording her first record, which hadn’t even been released yet, but during her rehearsals the hair on my arms would stand up so straight that my skin would start to ache. Less than six months later she was into her first platinum sale and she now boasts over 10 million records sold at the age of 24. My goal has been and still remains to find the music and the musicians that have the power to do what happened in those rehearsals.

I have been focusing on acoustic music with very heavy subject matters, matters of the heart and deep emotion, things and subjects that move people deeply. I also have a love for rock and high-energy music, music that makes you want to get up, raise your fist and cry out, “I’m going to change the world right now god dammit.” Of course those might not be the exact words to use but you get the point! I spent several years on tour with AC/DC, one of rock music’s forefathers and have never seen a group of five guys move a nation with such power and precision. They took years of criticism in the beginning but they stayed true to their music and their art and they give you the real article. I know that there are many artists and genres to choose from, but music that makes you evaluate who you are and what you have to offer is powerful and rates very high on my scale. I am also focused heavily on artists as people and try to interpret what it is they are trying to say and how they are trying to say it. It is really important for me to understand where an artist is coming from, their background and where they are trying to go. There are so many artists that get lost in the shuffle and never have a chance to be heard or seen.

As well as being involved with an artist on a personal level and wanting to know what it is that makes them special, I am not numb to the fact that an artist must have some sort of direction and marketable quality. It’s as important to me that they are viably marketable in whatever genre that they represent and that what they put forward to the paying consumer is exactly what the consumer is looking for. Whether it’s a bad boy rocker with a poor attitude or a good wholesome mid-western girl, they have to provide the image that goes along with the music and be willing to give it all for the one chance of being something. It’s ever so important to be able to judge if someone is truly real and if they are willing to give 500% to make something of their career.

For the past 13 years I have been working with a team of financial advisors, business managers and agents in and around the music business. I have come up with financial plans and put together management teams as well as full-scale budgets for small-scale artists all the way up to artists who perform multiple nights in arenas and stadiums. I believe that the best method to success is to have a solid foundation of management backed by a solid financial planning team.
